Sport England

Established by Royal Charter in 1996, Sport England are responsible for growing and developing grassroots sport and getting people more active across England. Our role is to build the foundations of a community sport system by working with national governing bodies of sport, and other funded partners to give everyone the chance to benefit from physical activity – regardless of their age, background, or level of ability.

Sport England recognises that unfortunately, those with the most to gain from being active, are often the least likely to take part. That is why we are committed to supporting The Family Mile initiative as we both share a common goal of transforming physical activity into something everyone  can benefit from.

Sport England are pleased to provide National Lottery funding to deliver The Family Mile, helping The Mason Foundation to achieve their vision of addressing the inequalities within lower socio-economic groups and improving the nation’s long-term physical and mental health.

Vinci Facilities

VINCI is supporting The Mason Mile because it provides a sustainable and supporting methodology to bring communities together to promote wellbeing and activity. This type of initiative is evermore important given the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic; and we look forward to working with The Mason Mile and our housing association partner ‘Peabody’ to deliver a programme in Thamesmead, South East London early in 2021.

The investments and support we will make will help the local community, bringing them together to exercise, communicate and support each other. This is very much in accordance with the recently published ‘Procurement Policy Note 06/20 – taking account of social value in the award of central government contracts’ that specifically recommends investment in ‘COVID-19 recovery’ and in ‘wellbeing’. The Mason Mile meets both these objectives.

Golding Homes

Golding Homes are a housing association providing homes and services to over 21,000 people in need across Kent. Our priority is to provide homes for our customers that are safe and secure and ensure our communities are places where people choose to live. We have had a brilliant relationship with The Mason Mile over the last three years and are delighted to be working together on The Family Mile.

We partnered with The Mason Mile in their infancy, both sharing a vision to generate positive change within communities. It has been a pleasure to watch them grow and witness this shared vision which has really made a difference to so many people’s lives.

Now more than ever, it is so important to be supporting our communities with their wellbeing; you can sign up to be an ambassador, download the new app and join an online community or take part in a weekly walk. What is important is encouraging families to do ‘Their Mile, Their Way’!

Peabody

Dania Fitzgerald – Area Manager – Greenwich and Bexley

“We are excited about funding a community based exercise programme to target residents in Thamesmead and help them have a more active lifestyle and increased physical activity, to give better long term health benefits.”

Peabody are a housing, care and support provider helping people to make the most of their lives in London and the South East. We own and manage over 66,000 homes across these areas, and we strive to do things in a way that adds the most value for our residents. By encouraging individuals to take that first step to activity, The Mason Mile are enabling communities to live happier, healthier and more independent lives – something that correlates well with our own mission!

Like us, The Mason Mile are dedicated to helping the most vulnerable members of society through grassroot community action. We believe this forms an effective blueprint – something that is crucial following the COVID-19 pandemic when helping communities to become more resilient has never been more important. Together with VINCI, and the generous funding from the Resident Services, frontline neighbourhoods’ team, we look forward to supporting The Mason Foundation in shaping a more positive and active future for the Thamesmead community.

Kent Association for the Blind

For over 100 years, Kent Association for the Blind has been supporting sight impaired people to live independent lives. Whether it’s to cook safely, send emails or use a cane to get to the local shops, KAB provides ongoing support tailored to the needs of each person.

We’re proud to be supporting The Mason Foundation in their aim to get the community moving together. Mental and physical wellbeing is important in all our lives. For people with a sight impairment, the barriers to becoming more active can be challenging to overcome and by working together we can make sure that this great initiative is accessible for all. Supporting the Mason Mile, we hope to encourage people to take start their journey to becoming more active, raise awareness of sight impairment and demonstrate why a healthy lifestyle is so important for good eye health.

Medway Council

We are delighted to add The Mason Mile to our range of Public Health Physical Activity Programs as we feel it represents our core values of increasing physical activity in a simple way and reducing social isolation in our communities. The Mason Mile team are enthusiastic and motivated to push out the message “Your Mile, Your Way”, which applies to everyone regardless of physical ability. We look forward to a long and successful project with The Mason Mile in Medway which can only benefit our residents.

Southwark Council

Southwark Council created the Active Southwark strategy pledging to help residents to take up physical activity and remain active throughout their lives. This commitment will be delivered by engaging with communities across three themes: ‘active people‘, ‘active places‘ and ‘active communities‘.

Southwark is pleased to be working with The Mason Foundation on creating some new free ‘Family Mile‘ walks in 2021. This scheme aligns well with our strategy and will bring local communities together to enjoy walking and talking to improve health and wellbeing.
